Dear Editor:
On November 22, 2008, as I was en route to Crisp County Fire Rescue station one for training, and an 18-wheeler ran a stop sign causing a collision with the fire truck I was driving.
I sustained serious injuries. In the blink of an eye, my life as well as my family's lives was turned upside down. I survived only by the grace of God, the quick response of emergency crews and excellent care provided by qualified people.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Crisp County Fire Rescue, Emergency Medical Services, Cordele Fire Department, Crisp County Sheriff's Department, Georgia State Patrol, Cordele Police Department, E-911 and all other agencies involved.
I especially want to thank EMS for risking their lives to pull me from the burning fire truck. Thanks to CCFR for fighting the fire to keep it off me and cool EMS personnel as much as possible.
I would also like to thank the employees of Crisp Regional Hospital who tirelessly worked to stabilize me while I was in the emergency room and operating room so I could be transferred to a trauma center.
Words simply cannot express my appreciation for the support and generosity shown by my family and community through this difficult time, but I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for everything that has been done on my behalf. Your kindness will always be remembered.
I especially thank everyone for their prayers, thoughts, visits, calls, cards and/or notes, and monetary gifts. The prayers are what carried me through.
Thanks to everyone who participated with and/or donated to the motorcycle benefit ride and rib sale, cooking and distribution. Thanks to the Dooly and Crisp County public safety personnel who participated in my warm welcome home greeting. It is great to be home! God bless and be with you all.
With sincere thanks,
