Two tractor trailers collide, trucker Johnathon Willmon killed
Tuesday, December 8th, 2009 - 33-year-old truck driver Johnathon J. Willmon of Bonner Springs, KS, was killed Tuesday in an accident with another big rig. Willmon was driving eastbound through a snow-covered road, just east of Plattsburg, Missouri, when his tractor trailer hit a westbound tractor trailer that had crossed the center line, jackknifed, and struck a bridge rail. Willmon was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to highway patrol, the cause of the accident was not that of Mr. Willmon. His family should not be forced to suffer the emotional burden, and the financial burden. If the death was caused by the negligence, action or inaction of another, that person should be held liable for the expenses associated with the wrongful death. Trucking insurance companies will try every trick in the book to deny your claim, or to have you accept the smallest payment they can get away with. Do not agree to anything without first discussing it with a trucking accident attorney or a wrongful death attorney.

19-year-old woman critically injured in 18-wheeler accident
A 19-year-old woman is in critical condition after being rear-ended by a tractor-trailer. On Monday night, the unidentified women was driving her Mercury Topaz southbound on Highway 45 in Menomonee Falls, WI, when an 18-wheeler struck her from behind. The big rig pushed the car more than 500 feet from the point of collision. The driver of the Topaz was taken to the hospital by Flight for Life. The 35-year-old truck driver was treated and released for minor injuries.
As unfortunate as this story is, it could have been a lot worse. The female driver could very well have died instantly from an impact that great. I'd just like to say that my thoughts are with the girl and her family right now. Not only does the family have to deal with the emotional stress of this situation, they are now hit with rapidly growing medical expenses. An experienced accident injury attorney can help you recover compensation for ALL expenses related to the accident. Do not trust the other insurance company; they are only concerned with saving their company money.

Elderly couple hospitalized after being rear-ended by 18-wheeler on I-75
An elderly Florida couple was injured Tuesday morning when an 18-wheeler struck their van on I-75. 75-year-old Arthur Berry, along with 84-year-old Yvonne Berry, were driving their Dodge van on Interstate 75 when they were struck from behind by an 18-wheeler. The van rotated, flipped and slid into a concrete barrier. The tractor trailer jackknifed, and the driver, 52-year-old David Lamar Mobley, received minor injuries. The couple were taken to Shands at the University of Florida, where Arthur is listed in critical condition, and Yvonne, in serious condition. Police say charges may be pending.
When an 18-wheeler collides with another vehicle, the results can be staggering. 18-wheelers are much more massive than other vehicles on the roads. They take longer to stop, take longer to turn, and have large blind spots. Truckers are required to have a much larger insurance policy (generally 50 times the size of regular drivers) because of this greater risk of danger. If you find yourself injured in an accident with a big rig, or any other commercial truck, you should talk to a personal injury attorney.

3-year-old Sean Thornton killed in violent 18-wheeler accident
3-year-old Sean Thornton was killed December 27th, when his family's minivan was struck from behind by an 18-wheeler driven by 50-year-old Willie Hill. According to witnesses, the tractor trailer was speeding at the time of the accident. The minivan was pushed off the highway, then the 2 vehicles got entangled, plowed through some trees, and came to a rest in a swamp. The driver of the minivan, Susan Thornton, was hospitalized in critical condition. The boy's father, and 2 siblings sustained non-life threatening injuries. Hill will likely face criminal charges.
Truckers are aware that their vehicles can cause massive amounts of damage. This is why their insurance policies are typically 50 times larger than those of normal vehicles, and why their driving record is extremely important to their livelihood. If someone you know has been killed in an accident involving an 18-wheeler, you need to call an experienced trucking accident attorney. Do not trust the insurance company adjusters; they are there to boost the company's bottom line by giving you the smallest settlement possible.

Truck driver Edward A. French lost his life in a single-vehicle accident
On November 18, 2009, 45-year-old truck driver Edward A. French of Long Beach, CA was killed in a single-vehicle truck accident. The fatal truck accident occurred as French's truck left the roadway and crashed into a building at a rest stop. Five other people were injured in the accident.
In an accident like this, the first thing that the truck driver's family should do is conduct an investigation into the cause of the accident. While it is very likely that the truck driver simply fell asleep at the wheel, the accident could have also been caused by a mechanical failure or by another vehicle running the truck off the road. If these or any other possibilities occurred, then Mr. French's family would have a wrongful death claim against the defendants.
An experienced 18 wheeler accident attorney can help the loved ones of an accident victim by conducting an investigation that would help them determine the full extent of any other parties' involvement.

A DPS vehicle was struck by an 18-wheeler that allegedly ran a red light
On December 10, 2009, a DPS trooper narrowly escaped injury when his patrol car was struck by an 18-wheeler that ran a red light. The accident occurred as the trooper was responding to a call and was traveling through the intersection of Loop 390 U.S. Highway 50 in Longview. The officer's car was struck on the front left side. Fortunately, he was not injured in the incident.
This situation could have been considerably worse. As a Texas truck accident attorney, I have handled many cases where the circumstances were very similar yet a severe injury or death did occur. I'm glad to hear that this officer was unharmed.

If you look through this blog, you will find numerous examples of these types of incidents. While I think that most truck drivers take safety seriously, this type of collision really just shows the type of disregard for safety that many truck drivers have.

Leon Hayes dies after being struck from behind by 18-wheeler
54-year-old truck driver Michael Jordan was charged with reckless driving as a result of a deadly accident on I-264 in Chesapeake. 25-year-old Leon Hayes was a passenger riding in a Oldsmobile that had just gotten a flat tire. The Oldsmobile was in the exterior lanes traveling at around 20-30mph, when the 18-wheeler struck the car from behind at about 55mph. The car caught fire, and only the driver was able to get out of the car.
Truck drivers must be on even higher alert than passenger vehicle drivers. They know that their vehicle can do more damage in an accident than any other on the road. This is also why a tractor trailer's insurance policy is usually worth 50 times that of a passenger vehicle's policy. If you have been involved in an accident with an 18-wheeler, where someone was injured or killed, you need to talk with an experienced 18-wheeler accident lawyer. The 18-wheeler driver suffered only scrapes & bruises.
It is unfortunate that this accident even took place. Trucking Accident Lawyer Michael Grossman Discusses Tractor Trailer Speed Limiters
In 2006, the American Trucking Association (ATA) filed a request with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), asking the organization to require that all 18 wheeler trucks install speed limiters that would not allow these trucks to exceed 68 mph. The ATA states that speed is the most significant factor in trucking accident injuries but that government safety regulations focus entirely on other factors. Those other factors are still important, argues the ATA, but speed should not be ignored. While this is certainly a step in the right direction, it will be years before it will be made into law, and right now, 18 wheelers still pose a significant threat on the road.
If you or someone you love has been injured by an 18 wheeler, you should seek the help of a personal injury attorney immediately, Lawsuits involving 18 wheelers are very complicated, primarily due to the large amounts of money involved when dealing with commercial insurance policies. Without an experienced attorney, your chances of success are virtually nonexistent. make sure your injuries are fully compensated.

5 Hurt, 1 Killed in Accident Between Bus and Overturned 18-Wheeler
Bus driver David Bonner, 61, lost his life earlier this month after the bus he was driving struck the trailer of an overturned 18-wheeler. The 18-wheeler had flipped earlier after turning to avoid a deer and over-correcting. Another 18-wheeler driver drove past the trailer and got out and walked over to check on the driver. The bus driver apparently saw the man walking, changed lanes to avoid him, and hit the trailer full of packaged meat full speed. Bonner, the deceased driver, leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
While this was an unfortunate accident, accidents with 18-wheelers are still happening more than ever before. The problem is that accidents with 18-wheelers are far more dangerous than accidents with regular automobiles. This is why their insurance policies are worth, on average, 50 times more than those of passenger vehicles. If someone you know has been injured or killed in an accident involving an 18-wheeler, you need to call a competent 18-wheeler accident attorney. An attorney can help you determine if you are owed financial compensation due to someone's negligence or actions, then work on your side to get you appropriate compensation.

Injury attorney Michael Grossman discusses the difference in insurance between car & truck accidents
If you are going to bring a truck accident lawsuit, you should know that it will not be easy. Comparing truck accident lawsuits to car accident cases would be a mistake. Car accident cases typically resolve easily and most of the time, the parties involved work together to reach a settlement. Truck accident lawsuits, however, are an entirely different matter and they will not resolve easily.
The difference is money. The insurance policies that cover commercial trucks are typically worth fifty times more than the policies that cover passenger vehicles. With this much money at stake, insurance carriers are going to do everything they can to avoid liability.
This defense begins with insurance adjusters. Commercial insurance carriers employ the most aggressive insurance adjusters they can find. These adjusters are specifically chosen for their proficiency in denying claims just like yours and forcing these cases to go to trial. This strategy works because most people are unaware of the particular difficulties faced in truck accident cases. Without the help of an experienced attorney, your chances of winning a truck accident lawsuit are slim to none.
If you are bringing a truck accident lawsuit, you should first contact an experienced truck accident lawyer to make sure you get the settlement you deserve.

Because of this, the insurance company is inclined to treat trucking accidents differently. If you do not have the help of an experienced trucking accident attorney on your side, you have a very small chance of recouping all of the damages owed to you.

Chico CA Man crushed between delivery two trucks
A man suffered serious head and leg injuries after being crushed between a parked 18-wheeler big rig truck and a smaller milk delivery truck that was backing up to the trailer. A witness, David Irle, was across the street and saw the man in obvious pain. He sprinted toward the accident to alert the oblivious delivery truck driver who was still trying to maneuver the truck. Irle called 9-1-1, and the injured man was taken to Enloe Medical Center.
It is always unfortunate when someone is injured or killed by accident. While it's very unlikely that the delivery driver intentionally injured the victim, the driver may still be found negligent in the accident if he was not following proper safety procedures. Large trucks with an obstructed view of the rear will usually be required, for safety reasons, to have an audible back-up alert. If the investigation shows that this feature was not working properly, the company that owns the truck as well as the company that provides maintenance to the truck may be found liable in the accident. Hiring a personal injury lawyer with extensive experience in trucking accidents may be the most important thing you can do for yourself in this situation. You can be sure that the trucker's insurance company is already working to build a case against you. A trucking accident injury lawyer will fight for you, find those responsible, and get you the help and restitution you deserve!

5 Injured, 1 Dead after 18-wheeler crashes into home
On Wednesday, November 18th, a May Trucking 18-wheeler traveling down I-10 veered across oncoming lanes, slammed through a backyard wall, and finally came to a stop after hitting a Safford, AZ residence. Five people were in the backyard at the time. Four were taken to area hospitals (Carlos, Sharon & Nicholas Gonzales and Adolfo Sedillo), while the fifth (Jamie Beltran), took herself to the hospital for lesser injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer, 45 year old Edward A. French, was pronounced dead at the scene. The fatal crash is under investigation.
Unfortunately for victims of trucking accidents, filing a claim against an 18-wheelers insurance provider without the help of an experienced legal team is rarely a simple ordeal. The fact is that big rig insurance policies are worth far more than a normal vehicle's insurance policy. With much more money at stake for the insurance company, they will do everything they can do, to not fairly compensate victims. There are countless tactics used by these insurance companies, not to mention an aggressive legal team working against you from the very beginning. You need an experienced Texas truck accident lawyer on your side to fight for you. Do not wait until it is too late!

On December 8, 2009, a multiple-vehicle truck accident claimed the life of 9-year-old Isabelle Ochoa. The fatal truck accident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. near mile marker 322 in the southbound lanes of I-35 near Waco when a minivan being towed by a Pontiac Aztec broke free from the tow vehicle and began rolling along the highway. An 18-wheeler traveling behind the Aztec struck it from behind before crashing into a median. Isabelle was a passenger in the Aztec. A child was injured Friday when an 18-wheeler lost a tire on I-35
A child was injured Friday when an 18-wheeled fuel tanker lost one of it's tires while traveling southbound on Interstate Highway 35 in Dallas' RedBird area. The tire bounced over the median and struck a minivan traveling northbound. The collision shattered a passenger window on the minivan, and sent a child to the hospital with minor injuries.
While this may seem like an uncommon accident, it happens far too often. Most people would be alarmed to know that an 18-wheeler's wheel and tire assembly weigh close to 100 lbs. When they become detached from the truck at highway speeds, they can carry enough momentum to inflict a massive amount of damage. Many times the trucking company is found to be negligent and at fault. Additionally, the company that services the truck may be responsible as well. Failure to properly install or maintain the tires can result in a catastrophic accident. If you have been involved in a Texas 18-wheeler trucking accident in any way, your first move should be to contact a Texas trucking accident lawyer immediately.

The SUV flipped over and landed on the roof, out of view from passing motorists. Cuevas waited for help, but soon realized help was not coming. The 18-wheeler never stopped or called for help, and Cuevas was forced to try and get out on her own. A tragic trucking accident claimed the lives of 35-year-old Todd Szymankiewiez, 14-year-old Dakota Klein, and two small children
On November 30, 2009, a fatal trucking accident claimed the lives of 35-year-old Todd Szymankiewiez, of Austin, and his two young children, as well as 14-year-old Dakota Klein of Pflugerville. According to authorities, the tragic accident occurred as Szymankiewiez was driving a Dodge van and made a U-turn when an 18-wheeler struck the van, killing several occupants. Two other victims of the accident were injured but survived.
The news media has been somewhat tight-lipped about the specifics of this accident. If it turns out that the truck driver was at fault in the accident, then, naturally, the families of all of the victims would have a wrongful death claim on behalf of all of the victims against that truck driver.
In any event, this is a truly tragic accident. The loss of an adult is devastating enough, but the loss of such young children is heartbreaking. My condolences to the families involved.

A trucker accident claimed the lives of three people in Marshall County, OK.
On December 1, 2009, truck accident claimed the lives of three people in Marshall County, OK. The fatal trucking accident occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Highway 377 near Kingston, OK. According to authorities, the driver of a passenger car failed to stop at a stop sign at 377. The tractor-trailer struck the car as it pulled out in front of it, killing all three people on board. The truck driver was not seriously injured.
In an accident like this, it is easy for people to cast blame on the occupants of the car. Even if the driver of the car did fail to stop at the stop sign, the other two passengers are entirely not at fault. As such, their families would have the right to file a wrongful death lawsuit on their behalf. Although the authorities typically do a good job with their investigation, I always recommend to families that have lost a loved that they should conduct a private investigation just to be sure that nothing was overlooked. This is a sad accident, and I offer my condolences to those involved.
