Samuel Lee Taylor Killed in 18-wheeler/ train collision

On April 24, 2008 44-year-old Samuel Lee Taylor died when his 18-wheeler was struck by a frieght train. The accident happened around 5 PM about 11 miles east of Franklin where Hoxie Chapel Road meets the railroad tracks off U.S. 79.

Taylor crossed the tracks in his unladen 18-wheeler when the train struck his truck on the driver side. Taylor was ejected from the 18-wheeler and died instantly. The train dragged the truck for approximately 1/8 of a mile before the two vehicles came to a rest and the truck burst into flames.

Firefighters battled the flames for hours before they were contained. The two train conductors suffered only minor inuries.
