18-wheeler crashes into boat storage facility
On April 16, 2008 an 18-wheeler left the roadway and plowed through 200 yards of a corn field before crashing into a boat storage facility. The accident happened on Highway 59 in Victoria, TX.
Officials suspect the driver fell asleep at the wheel due to the shear distance that the 18-wheeler traveled before finally crashing.
Sgt. Julian Huerta of the Victoria Police Department describes the events, "Because of the distance he traveled we're assuming there was something that effected his ability to react, to stop, he would have had time to stop before he hit the building, so we're assuming it might be medical or he fell asleep at the wheel."
The truck made contact with power lines and officials had to cut power to the area before they could safely proceed with their rescue efforts. The driver was taken to a local hospital.
