Overturned 18-wheeler spills fuel
On April 14, 2008 an 18-wheeler, laden with gasoline, overturned in the northbound lane of the East Sam Houston Tollway near highway 90.Upon rolling over the 18-wheeler spilled some portion of it's payload of gasoline onto the roadway. Hazmat crews were called in to dispose of the spilled fuel.
A note from E. Michael Grossman:
There certainly has been no shortage of overturned 18-wheelers in the news lately. Fortunately in this incident it doesn't appear that anyone was badly injured. However, in the past few months there have been numerous examples of 18-wheelers rolling over with dire results. Most notably, the stories of young Ashley Parra and Maria Gamez come to mind. In both of these instances an 18-wheeler rolled over, likely due to uncontrolled weight transfer of the cargo, which resulted in catastrophe. It is easy for these events to be dismissed as "accidents" but the word accident is hardly the term I would use to describe a scenario in which the driver of an 18-wheeler allegedly failed to control his vehicle.
