18-wheeler plunges into San Marcos River

On April 10, 2008 an 18-wheeler was traveling north on I-35 when the driver lost control of the truck which resulted in the vehicle crashing through approximately 150 feet of guardrail before it crashed into the San Marcos River.

The truck landed in water deep enough to reach the level of the cabin but the driver was able to escape without any major injuries.

The San Marcos river is part of the Edwards Aquifer drinking water system and as such hazardous material crews were on the scene to contain any potential environmental threats.
