On June 24, 2009, a 55-year-old truck driver was seriously injured when his 18-wheeler was struck by a train. The accident happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. at a rail crossing on North Westmoreland Road near Singleton Blvd. as one of the safety gates became snagged on the truck. It is believed that the safety gate lifted shortly after one train had safely passed through the intersection, which caused the truck driver to proceed across the tracks, when another train approached causing the arm to lower before the truck could make its way across. The train T-boned the 18-wheeler causing it to jackknife as the tractor-trailer was dragged approximately 100 yards down the track. The driver of the truck was injured in the accident and taken to an area hospital.
