An 18-wheeler collided with a train in Leighton, AL
On June 17, 2009, an 18-wheeler crashed into a freight train in Leighton, AL. The trucking accident occurred as the truck's driver, 63-year-old William Hare, approached a private rail crossing of off Highway 20 in Colbert County, AL. The details of the accident are sketchy, but it is believed that the truck was sitting at the rail crossing as the train was passing by, and the truck lurched forward into the side of the train. The collision destroyed the front end of the truck and caused the train to spill several hundred gallons of diesel fuel onto the tracks. The driver of the truck was taken to a local hospital and was later released.
