The Texas Department of Public Safety has launched a 3-day initiative called "Roadcheck 2009" for the purpose of inspecting 18-wheelers passing through various checkpoints in the State of Texas. Texas State Troopers are flagging down 18-wheeler for the purpose of inspecting vital safety features, such as the braking systems, as well as checking the drivers for intoxicants. Authorities expect the inspections to take approximately 40 minutes to complete. Similar efforts took place last year which resulting in discovering some 25% of the trucks pulled over as having severe enough safety concerns that the trucks were pulled out of service.
