Local news reports indicate a boy was killed and two others injured in a truck accident in San Antonio Texas. The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. Monday July 9 when police believe an SUV carrying a man a girl and a boy struck the rear of an 18-wheeler along Highway 281. The semi truck was stopped on the shoulder of the roadway due to mechanical problems. A boy believed to be between 8 to 10-years-old was killed at the scene while the male driver and a female child were taken by AirLife to a local hospital.
Update: The victims of the accident have been identified. 7-year-old Justin Kalak died in the incident while 43-year-old Ramon Justo Alvarado Jr. and 5-year-old Julianne Kalak were injured.

We are currently litigating an accident of this nature and have litigated several other similar cases. While the news feed seems to paint the incident as fairly simplistic my experience has shown me they are never as reported. For instance the article mentions nothing of the presence of hazard signs around the rig federally required if a trucker is to park on the shoulder. And speaking of that shoulder was the rig completely removed from the roadway? If the problem with the truck was indeed mechanical was the rig poorly maintained? If so this may place liability on not only the truck driver but also the owner of the semi. As you can see we just went through only a handful of scenarios that each make a rear-ending accident unique and complex.
