Three People Hurt in Fiery Accident with an 18-Wheeler in Temple, Texas
According to KCEN, three people were injured when their vehicle ignited
after rear-ending an 18-wheeler in Temple, Texas. The accident occurred
around 11 p.m. Friday, January 13 when a woman rear-ended the rig on
Interstate 35. The pickup she was driving then caught fire. Bystanders
were able to rescue two children from the burning vehicle, while
paramedics rescued the driver. The children sustained minor injuries
while the driver was first taken to Scott and White Hospital in Temple
and later Parkland Hospital Burn Unit in Dallas, Texas.
Commentary The news
feed offers no explanation as to why the vehicle rear-ended the truck.
In such a scenario, and really most commercial vehicle accidents, an
independent investigation should be used for accident recreation and a
possible liability determination. The investigation would be
tasked with first inspecting both the pickup and the commercial truck
for defects that could have led to the accident. The next step is to
more than likely download data from the rig to ascertain relative speed
at the time of the accident. This is obtained through the truck's
electronic control module, a sort of black box if you will for the
logistics industry. With that information and presumably eye witness
testimony, a clearer picture of the incident should begin to form.
