Amanda Allen and Son Injured in Accident with 18-Wheeler in Midland, Texas
According to My West Texas, a woman and her young child were injured in an accident with an 18-wheeler near Midland, Texas. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. Sunday, December 18 when the semi, driven by 67-year-old Edwin Isbell, was attempting to turn onto FM 1788 from West Interstate 20. The rig struck the front end of 24-year-old Amanda Allen's vehicle, injuring her and her young baby. They were both taken to Midland Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Commentary The Texas Department of Public Safety has not issued any details on the accident, except for the detail that the rig was turning on a farm to market road. As I've mentioned, just about any commercial vehicle accident that results in injury should be examined by a party outside of the investigating officers. While the officers are tasked with providing a cause for the accident, rarely will their investigation look into contingencies like a faulty braking system, a truck driver's log book, or the rate of speed on the rig prior to the accident. This information, by the way, is accessible via a download of the truck's electronic control module, provided the evidence has been maintained. This is another reason it is recommended that a third party look at the scene sooner, rather than later, as strategies for civil remedies may vanish with contaminated evidence.
