According to local reports one person has been killed and six others injured in a three vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler Wednesday July 27. Police indicate the accident happened slightly after 9 p.m. when the 18-wheeler driven by 51-year-old Robert Goodman of Lewiston Maine collided with a car driven by 61-year-old Sylvia Hull. The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to slide into oncoming traffic and strike the car of 80-year-old Alden Milton of Goffstown New Hampshire. Miltons passenger was killed in the accident. One person was taken by helicopter to the Maine Medical Center. Names of the deceased and injured are being withheld pending investigation.
While the details are sparse at the moment an independent investigation is needed to determine what happened in this tragic accident. I say this to point out that a number of factors are involved in an 18-wheeler accident. Beyond the details of what simply happened the truckers log should be checked to make sure he was complying with federal standards for daily driving limits. The rig should be inspected to ensure the vehicle is up to safety standards. These are just a few of the factors that are involved in a multi-car wreck with an 18-wheeler and highlight the potentials for liability in an accident like this.
